Both climbers are beginning to realise the imminent danger they dragged themselves into. As Joe desperately holds on to Simon he too slips and takes a minor plummet, both climbers just barely escaped their untimely fates. They eventually get their bearings and make way to a ridge to dig another snow cave, in this time Simon notices clearly that he did get frostbite in his fingers and gets agitated with Joe for taking so long with the digging. As the two rest up, Simon recalls a time when they were climbing with two other Japanese climbers but unfortunately they fell to their deaths, this gets both of them worried as they might meet the same fate. As the two woke up in somewhat of a positive attitude, they prepared for the hopefully quick decent, Simon’s frostbite worsens and the two used up their last gas canister. Just as they set of Joe just narrowly avoided another collapse of cornice, they begin to make haste with both their moods as low as the temperature.
