My poem ‘Hawk Roosting’ by Ted Hughes is perceptive poem with a hidden message, this poem describes nature and the natural world. The poem is a narrative from a hawk’s perspective, I know this because there are references to a ‘hooked head and hooked feet’, ‘my each feather’ and many more point towards a hawk’s features. The author also made a description of how a hawk act: ‘Or fly up and revolve all slowly’ is how a hawk will fly above its prey and ‘My manners are tearing off heads’ is how a hawk hunts. The poem describes the daily life as a hawk and how it survives and acts. Ted Hughes mentions ‘I am going to keep things like this. ‘ which supports the point that this is the life of a hawk on a daily basis. This poem does not present any technical language features or feature any symbolism. The reason for this is that Hughes wanted to be more forward and show the power the character possesses. I mentioned that there is a message hidden in the poem which was probably unintended but I noticed it. This poem describes the connection between nature and humanity, to support this is that the poem also describes that we should express our power, we use our environment to our advantage, what passes us is should be left behind, nothing should change and we should continue our path.
