So many ways you can describe Captain Jack Sparrow: eccentric, irresponsible, a drunk, a lady’s man or in some cases the worst pirate alive. Jack himself is more of a wondering free spirit that simply goes wherever the wind takes him and his marvellous brig The Black Pearl’.He is not the kind of person to cal heroic as he seems to blindly sail his ship and his crew into all sorts of dangers such as the British Navy, Davy Jones or even a kraken. He likes to sit back with a bottle of rum watching people and learning about them and when he sees the opportunity, he manipulates people to get what he wants. even when other people try to play him he is somehow one step ahead and when he is actually cornered he finds a way to escape, even when he has an entire island tribe chasing him for being a false prophet. On top of that, Jack likes to steal, or how he sees it as picking up souvenirs, and not give a care and not focus on it he just simply walks next to takes your ring and leaves.
The level of respect and loyalty between him and his crew is questionable as even though they listen to his orders perfectly considering they always manage to get out of a storm unscathed and they were even willing to capsize the ship to solve a riddle on a chart. However, some of the members of the crew have made past attempts to kill him and Elizabeth Swann even left him tied on his ship and she and the rest of the crew of the Black Pearl left him for dead by the hands, or tentacles, of the kraken to which he was sent to Davy Jones Locker. Loyalty to the captain is still up in the air but their are aspects to him the can be hailed as good. For example, even though he manipulates people he does what he can to stay out of a fight and he does not really kill people, even in a bar fight he just gabbed a bottle and walks out. He fights really only when he has to when his life is threatened. As a captain, Jack’s methods are questionable but never in any situation did his antics get his crew killed or his ship sunk, only the betrayal of his crew, meaning his is somewhat loyal to his crew and wants to ensure a future as free men on the open seas. The most heroic action Jack has done would probably be in ‘At World’s End’ where he was given a chance to be immortal by stabbing Davy Jones’ heart and becoming the new captain of the Flying Dutchman. It was his dream, one that he was chasing all his life, the ability to sail the seven seas for eternity, however, Jacks conscience got the better of him and as his friend, Will Turner, laid dead he placed the knife in his hand and stabbed the heart. HE killed the Davy Jones, saved all his crew and the Black Pearl and he gave up his dream to save his friend and ensuring the everlasting love of him and Elizabeth. So while respect and loyalty and his actions remain questionable, Jack is still an honourable pirate and he continues his adventure not regretting any of his actions.
